VLCC Femina Miss India 2020

The novel coronavirus pandemic has shifted the gears of our lives and compelled us to restructure administration across multiple platforms.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Miss India Organization accounts responsibility for the welfare of the general public by maintaining Govt. ensued guidelines to restructure the annual conduct of the pageant with equal glory and presidency.

With a tradition that has reigned for six decades, Miss India Organization announces the institutionalization of a dynamic virtual platform to continue with its legacy of creating icons for the glamour and fashion industry. Co-powered by Sephora and Roposo, the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 pledges a divine platform for young talented women to pursue their goals and represent India on the global index.

The pageant in its first ever virtual format has launched the nationwide hunt effective 5th October 2020 onwards to select representatives from 28 Indian states and a representative each from Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir besides a collective representative from the Union Territories of India to be promoted and supported to win the majestic crown.

The applicants are invited to register online and submit the complete enlisted tasks as described on the Roposo App for further proceedings. The online registration process will be followed by an internal screening, under the wise wings of our expert panelists. The 31 shortlisted participants will be trained and groomed by the Miss India Organization and Ms. Neha Dhupia, former title holder and Crown Winner for an iconic status. The contestants will be further shortlisted on their arrival in Mumbai and shall compete for the honored title at the Grand Finale, February, 2021.

The title winner of Miss India 2020 will be awarded with the opportunity to represent India on the international platform of Miss World after qualifying all the tests based on their merits and credits as per the standards of the pageant. The contest runner up shall represent the country at the Miss Grand International platform, to display their grace and beauty.

The participation criteria for any applicant includes:

  • Height - 5’3” and above
  • Age - 18 – 25 (25 as per 31st Dec 2020
  • Age 26 & 27 are eligible for the runner up position only
  • OCI card holders are also eligible for runner up positions

Continuing the legacy that saw Six Miss Worlds who made us proud by marking their presence on the globe- Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000) and Manushi Chhillar (2017), the hunt for the new crown bearer has begun.

This year also marks a 20 year journey of Ms. Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Ms. Dia Mirza of winning their Miss India titles.

Femina Miss India is one the prestigious and the oldest surviving national beauty pageant in India. Started in the year 1964, Miss India or Femina Miss India is a national beauty pageant that annually selects the representatives who can compete in Miss World, which is one of the Big Four major international beauty pageants. Miss India is organised by Femina, which is a women's magazine that is published by The Times Group. The reigning Femina Miss India titleholder is Suman Rao who was crowned by the outgoing titleholder Anukreethy Vas.

To participate in Femina Miss India, there are few criteria that the participant has to fulfill, and these are mentioned below:

The candidate who is looking to participate in Femina Miss India should be minimum of 18 years and should not exceed 25 years old. The applicant should be a minimum of 5.3 inches tall and that should be measured without wearing heels. She should be an Indian passport holder. However, the OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cardholder can also apply but they will be allowed to participate only for the runner’s up title. In addition to this, the contender who wants to participate in Femina Miss India should be single, not engaged, unmarried, or never been married.

History of Femina Miss India

The first Miss India was organised by the local press in the year 1947 and the winner was Pramila (Esther Victoria Abraham). In the year 1952, Indrani Rehman has been crowned as Miss India. Indrani was the first Indian woman who participated in the Miss Universe that was held in the United States in 1952.

In the same year i.e., in 1952, two Miss India pageants were conducted, where Indrani Rehman and Nutan were the winners of the pageant. In the year 1953, Peace Kanwal from Punjab won Miss India at the KARDAR-KOLYNOS Pageant. This pageant was organised by Abdur Rashid Kardar. In the following year that is in year 1954, Leela Naidu from Maharashtra was crowned as Miss India.

The first Femina Miss India pageant was held in the year 1964. Meher Castelino Mistri of Maharashtra has crowned the first Femina Miss India. She was chosen to represent India at Miss Universe 1964 held in the United States and Miss Nations 1964 held in Spain. Under the same pageant, Zeenat Aman was the first to win the Femina Miss India titleholder who also won the international pageant. She was also crowned as the Femina Miss India Asia Pacific. In the year 1981, Meenakshi Seshadri became the youngest contestant to win the Miss India contest at the age of 17. In the year 1993, Miss Femina India, Vaishali Sood was the winner of the 1991 Navy May Queen Ball.
